Calhoun Square Parking Ramp – Minneapolis, MN
- Post-Tension Demolition
- Post-Tensioned Slabs
NCM is ready to tackle challenging projects with innovative ideas. The partial demolition and vertical expansion of the Calhoun Square parking structure showcases the many talents of NCM. Uptown is a dense urban area of Minneapolis with limited space for retail and parking. The owners of Calhoun Square desired increased parking space, while reducing their parking ramp’s footprint to allow for future adjacent retail expansion. The final design called for the shortening of the existing parking ramp by one bay and expanding the ramp vertically with two levels of new construction. In order to reduce the ramp’s footprint by one bay, the structural design required the demolition of two bays of the post-tensioned concrete beam and slab frame. The desired overall length was then achieved by re-constructing the end bay. Developing a sequencing plan that was both practical and safe was critical to the project’s successful partial demolition. The NCM team worked closely with the structural engineer and post-tensioning supplier to coordinate key items such as shoring, tendon de-stressing locations, and field splices. After completing the demolition phase, NCM re-constructed the end bay and began the vertical expansion of the parking structure. NCM met the demanding challenges of this project with innovative ideas and completed it ahead of schedule.
Mac Silver Ramp – Bloomington, IN
The MAC Silver Ramp is the core structure to a 5,000 stall parking ramp located at the Minneapolis Terminal 1 Airport. This 14-story core structure includes 6 elevator shafts, an underground tunnel for future automated people moving, foundations for escalators that climb as high as 4 stories, and a rental car service building. Nearly all of this core structure is architecturally exposed concrete, with every wall form, wall tie, accent reveals and surface finishes needing to be precise. Our hats are off to our field personal and BIM modeling team for the extensive detail put into this structural concrete project!
