Excelsior & Lake
Last winter, Frana Companies challenged NCM to construct the concrete structure and masonry on the Excelsior and Lake Apartments. We took on the challenge. In April, NCM started the footings on the 10 story post tension concrete structure. This is no ordinary structure, it’s located on a very tight site and is a difficult design which creates some challenges for the crew. The carpenter crew, that was led by Ross Lindahl, met the challenge and did a fantastic job on schedule and with quality. Jake DeGeus and crew poured the slabs, which had a lot of intricacies, and they crushed it! The concrete structure consisted of 215,00 SF of slabs and 9,000 yards of concrete. It was a pleasure working with the concrete crews, they did an unbelievable job on this project! We now look forward to the masonry veneer continuing up the building this Fall and Winter led by Paul Jerry and crew. Congrats to all of the NCM team that helped get this difficult structure to the top successfully!
Nordhaus – Minneapolis
Nordhaus is a project that consisted of one level of retail on grade, a 5 story low rise apartment building, a parking ramp, and a 21 story post tension high rise. The high rise portion of the project consisted of 260,000 sf of post tension concrete slabs that encompassed a large concrete core wall in the center of the floor plate. This project also included 150,000 sf of slabs on grade at the parking garage and retail areas, 2,400 cyds of concrete foundations, 34,000 CMU partition block, and 95,000 utility and normal sized brick. The high rise portion of this project was completed through the winter, causing challenging working conditions, however the NCM crew was able to turn the floors over on schedule and in a safe manner.
The Berkman – Rochester
The Berkman is a large multi-family apartment building with office space, retail space, town homes, and a 4-story parking garage. It is located off of 2nd Street in Rochester, Minnesota. The building structure consists of 15 stories of post tension concrete at the apartment tower and a 4-story post tension parking ramp, built on top of a story of below grade parking. The concrete foundations started in May of 2018 and the proposed topping off of the post tension concrete is scheduled for April 15th of 2019. Even after the post tension concrete structure is complete, our crews will still have another 16,000 sf on grade town home structure to complete. The concrete crews have worked diligently to keep this project on schedule with some complex PT slabs and difficult foundations, not to mention building most of the PT structure during the winter.
Concrete Totals: • 82,000 sf of slabs on grade •13,000 sf of topping slabs •580,000 sf of PT slabs •58,000 sf of poured walls •TOTAL CONCRETE 22,500 cubic yards placed
On top of the difficult concrete structure the masons have their hands full with this massive brick veneer project and have once again shown this project who is boss. The masonry veneer consists of cast stone veneer along the first two levels of the tower with the remaining 12 stories of the building utility sized brick veneer. Masonry Totals: •60,000 block •250,000 utility sized brick •13,000 sf of cast stone panels •2,600 lf of cast stone sills/caps •1,400 sf of thin brick veneer
This project is one of the largest NCM has ever done and we give a huge thanks to all of the employees working on it as they work to make it another success for NCM!!! Thanks!
Ironclad – Minneapolis
The MAC Silver Ramp is the core structure to a 5,000 stall parking ramp located at the Minneapolis Terminal 1 Airport. This 14-story core structure includes 6 elevator shafts, an underground tunnel for future automated people moving, foundations for escalators that climb as high as 4 stories, and a rental car service building. Nearly all of this core structure is architecturally exposed concrete, with every wall form, wall tie, accent reveals and surface finishes needing to be precise. Our hats are off to our field personal and BIM modeling team for the extensive detail put into this structural concrete project!
